Emotions of others can really effective us individually and really effect us negatively. The old saying “sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” may not be as true as we once tried to believe.
Your thoughts and emotions can affect your health. Emotions that are freely experienced and expressed without judgment or attachment tend to flow fluidly without impacting our health. On the other hand, repressed emotions (especially fearful or negative ones) can zap mental energy, negatively affect the body, and lead to health problems..
It’s important to recognize our thoughts and emotions and be aware of the effect they have—not only on each other, but also on our bodies, behavior, and relationships. What we also may not understand that being around others with strong emotions can cause us to start experiencing that same emotions. So example if somebody in the room is experiencing high anxiety, we may start to notice ourselves becoming extremely anxious. When we reflect on the situation we realize we have nothing to be anxious about, and that indeed we are holding on to somebody else’s emotions. So many of us our empathic and truly want to help those in need out, but the truth is we can not solve others emotions, take away their sadness solve their problems, no matter how much we would like too.
